Boat Donation Rules of Changed

It is a little tougher, but worth the effort

 Here are a few things to remember when donating your boat:

1. Always consult with a tax professional.

2. Make sure the recipient is a qualified charity. See IRS Publication 78 or contact the IRS Customer Account Services at (887)829-5500.

3. Review the IRS documentation

4. In order to deduct the contribution from you taxes:

  • The donation has to be itemized on Schedule A of Form 1040. 
  • You have to attach the Contribution of Motor Vehicle, Boats and Airplanes form (1098-C) that you should have received from the Charity.

Recycle your Weather Balloons 

What's that orange thing floating in the water??

Weather balloons (radiosondes) are deployed all over the world.  They can reach altitudes of 100,000 feet before they burst and fall back to earth.

It is not unusual for the balloons to land in the water.  They are easily identified by their orange parachutes and they will have a plastic foam box attached. If it is not damaged, it can be recycled. To mail the radiosonde to the NWS:

  1. Cut the string to burst the balloon.
  2. Remove and discard the battery.  Be careful it may be hot!
  3. Put the instrument into the prepaid mailer located in the radiosonde.
  4. Hand the mailer directly to your mailman or take it to the post office.

Yes, Engines are Allowed in the America's Cup

Snow mobiles join the race

Justice Shirley Kornreich, of the New York Supreme  Court, has cleared the way for Alinghi, the Swiss defending  champion, to trim sails and move ballast water using an engine. 

At this point the Americans are only using manpower while sailing. With this ruling, they too can implement engine assisted systems as well.

The rivals will meet in a best-of-3 competition in February in Rs al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.
